1. Activate

Click the scissors (Trim) in Tools. Shortcut: ⌘K (macOS) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux). The button stays highlighted and a Trim panel opens on the right.

Turn it off with Trim again, ← Back, or esc.

2. How to trim

Hover a line — the span that will be removed turns red — then click.

1: trim section 1 2: trim section 2 3: trim section 3

Action Result
Click a span Cuts the line back to the next intersection
Click a line that does not meet anything Deletes the vector
⌘-click (macOS) / Ctrl-click (Windows/Linux) Cuts without joining leftover pieces

Pieces that meet at the cut are joined into one path. Hold / Ctrl while clicking to skip that join.

3. After a trim

Shape What changes
Square, circle, polygon, text Become ordinary paths once trimmed
Untrimmed text Stays editable text
Imports and Vector Library items Trim the same way, leftovers stay in the same group

Laser tips

A trimmed closed outline is closed along the cut, so Fill and Line still follow the remaining interior — including holes and dots in letters. Use Boolean to merge or subtract whole closed shapes rather than snipping a span.
